USC 7th INTERNATIONAL ENDODONTIC SYMPOSIUM
Honoring Drs. Al Frank & Dudley Glick
The USC 7th International Endodontic Symposium "Clinical and Biological Concepts of Modern Endodontics" will be held at the USC Davidson Executive Conference Center on Friday - Saturday, November 14 - 15, 2008.
Internationally renowned speakers from Argentina, France and the United States will present the most recent updates and advances in endodontics. Key speakers at the symposium are Harold Slavkin (USA), Syngcuk Kim (USA), Jean-Yves Cochet (France), Nadia Chugal (USA), Marcela Fridland (Argentina), David Kelliny (USA), Parish Sedghizadeh (USA), James Simon (USA), Ilan Rotstein (USA), and John West (USA)
In this year’s
symposium we will pay a special tribute to Drs. Al Frank and Dudley
Glick. Al and Dudley were instrumental in shaping what was thought,
what was taught and what was practiced in endodontics at USC and
around the world. Both were legendary educators and international
leaders in the field of endodontics who mentored and inspired many
generations of dental students and endodontic residents. A tribute
in honor of Drs. Al Frank and Dudley Glick will be held at the opening
ceremony of the symposium on Friday, November 14, 2008.

A two-day workshop
Mastering Molar Endodontics was successfully held
at the USC School of Dentistry on Friday - Sunday, February 8-9,
2008. This intensive course was provided by Drs. Ilan Rotstein,
Thomas Levy, Dan Schechter, Dan Kolzet, Sam Oglesby and Louis Schwarzbach

A six-day workshop
Endodontics From A to Z was successfully held at the USC
School of Dentistry on Friday - Sunday, June 6-8 and June 20-22,
2008. This comprehensive state-of-the-art course included 42 hours
of lectures, seminars and hands-on workshops by the following USC
faculty members: Ilan Rotstein, James Simon, Stanley Malamed, Thomas
Levy, Dan Schechter, Dan Kolzet, Sam Oglesby, Jack Brown, Louis

ENDO ALUMNI DAY 2008
The traditional annual USC Endodontic Alumni Day was held at USC School of Dentistry on Saturday, February 2, 2008. The invited keynote speaker was Dr. Alan Gluskin from San Francisco who presented the topic "Mishaps and neurologic injury in endodontics". Dr. Gluskin is Professor and Chair at the Department of Endodontics, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, University of the Pacific, San Francisco. The program also featured clinical presentations by the senior endodontic residents (class of '08) and an evidence-based open forum on the endodontic workforce in California and beyond. Drs. James Simon and George Bogen presented and lead a discussion on the current ratio of endodontists to generalists in the community, size of graduating classes and the way it influences the endodontic practice today. The event was well attended by alumni, faculty and residents.

USC 6th INTERNATIONAL ENDODONTIC SYMPOSIUM
HONORING DR. JOHN INGLE
The USC
6th International Endodontic Symposium "Clinical and
Biological Concepts of Modern Endodontics" was held at the
USC Davidson Executive Conference Center on Friday - Saturday,
November 16 - 17, 2007. Internationally renowned speakers
from Belgium, Israel and the United States presented the most recent
advances in the field. Key speakers at the symposium were Fred Barnett
(USA), Patrick Bogaerts (Belgium), Glenn Clark (USA), Ken Hargreaves
(USA), Ken Reed (USA), Eric Rivera (USA), Ilan Rotstein (USA), James
Simon (USA), and Aviad Tamse (Israel). This year’s symposium
was exceptionally special as we honored Dr. John Ingle, a pioneer,
educator and an international leader in the field of endodontics.

USC ENDO ALUMNI DAY 2007
The traditional annual USC Endodontic Alumni Day was held at USC School of Dentistry on Saturday, March 17, 2007. The invited keynote speaker was Dr. John Stropco from Scottsdale, Arizona who presented the topic "Apical microsurgery in a nutshell". Dr. Stropko is an internationally recognized authority on Micro-Endodontics and has been a visiting clinical instructor at PERF, an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Boston University and an Assistant Professor of graduate Clinical Endodontics at Loma Linda University. The program also featured a presentation by Dr. Fred Monempour (class of '01) on "Diagnosing difficult endodontic cases utilizing ultra high resolution CT scans", clinical presentations by the senior endodontic residents (class of '07) and an exciting evidence base debate on root canal preparation and obturation philosophies presented by Dr. Rajiv Patel and Dr. Keyvan Lazar (class of '07). The event was well attended by alumni, faculty, staff and residents.

USC ENDODONTICS HOSTED NATIONAL APICES 2006
USC Graduate Endodontics hosted the national APICES meeting held at the Davidson Executive Conference Center, USC Park Campus, July14-16, 2006. APICES is an annual meeting of all the endodontic residencies in the nation. It presents an opportunity for endodontic residents to interact together in an educational environment and also have social activities. APICES is a collaboration among the AAE, the AAE's Resident and New Practitioner Committee, the Resident Communications Network and the host institution. We were very proud and honored by the AAE's vote of confidence in our program. This was the 3rd time APICES was held. The first one was held in Boston and the second time in Chicago. This was the first time that APICES have held west of the Mississippi!

USC ENDO ALUMNI DAY 2006
The Annual USC Endodontic Alumni Day was held at USC School of Dentistry on Saturday, February 11, 2006 and was well attended by alumni, faculty and residents. The keynote speaker was Dr. Craig Baumgartner, Professor and Chair, Departmenent of Endodontics and Director, Advanced Education Program in Endodontics at Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry. Dr. Baumgartner presented the topic "Endodontic bugs and drugs". The program also featured an evidence-based debate on the topic "Resilon vs. gutta-percha" as well as research and case presentations by USC senior residents (Class '06). The program was concluded with clinical presentations by Drs. Anastasios Angelidis (Class '98), Paul Anstey (Class '97) and George Bogen (Class '95).

JIM SIMON RECIPIENT OF THE 2005 LOUIS I. GROSSMAN AWARD
At the last AAE meeting in Dallas, Dr. Jim Simon was honored to receive the Louis I. Grossman Award by the American Association of Endodontists. This most prestigious award recognizes an author for cumulative publication of significant research studies that have made an extraordinary contribution to endodontics.

USC ENDO ALUMNI DAY 2005
The Third USC Endodontic Alumni Day was held at USC School of Dentistry on Saturday, January 15, 2005 and was attended by many alumni and faculty. Dr. Sandra Madison, President of the AAE, was the keynote speaker presenting the topic “The Specialty of Endodontics- Present and Future”. The program included an evidence-based debate on the topic “Clinical Outcomes of Endodontics and Implants” presented by 2 senior residents, Dr. Neha Sha and Dr. Craig Anderson. This was followed by clinical case presentations presented by senior endodontic residents introduced by chief resident Dr. Afshin Mazdeyasnan. The program also included a lecture by USC alumnus, Dr. Doug Daws on the topic “Endodontic Retreatment and things that get stuck in the canal” and clinical cases presented by USC alumni, Dr. Jan O’Dell, Dr. Anastasios Angelidis and Dr. David Kelliny.
